HOW WE APPROACH AI IN EDUCATION
- Your very own AI readiness scan

Step: 1 -  AI readiness scan

Series of interviews with key stakeholders to assess current ‘state of AI’ at the institution on four topics: Awareness, Application, Human Capital Development and Ecosystem partners. APPLICATION: The readiness scan zooms in on the extent to which the subject is already alive, where expertise is located, who belongs to the forerunners, so that they can be brought into contact with each other insofar as this is not yet the case.

Step: 2 - Masterclass AI in Education

Designed for decision makers with latest (inter)national developments and evaluation of the findings from the AI readiness scan to help formulate the AI ambition statement. APPLICATION: In the masterclass, participants are upskilled by leveraging research and Turner cases at comparable organizations. They’re challenged to express an ambition for their own organization together, for example in which field they want to be distinctive.

Step: 3(a) - Define AI strategy

An AI strategy one pager is developed for education, research and operations based on the AI ambition statement. APPLICATION: A strategy contains elements such as: vision on talent development and the professionalization of employees. Are we going to develop courses ourselves or are we going to shape this differently? How do we look at the use of AI in education, research and operations?

Step: 3(b) - Setting up AI Pioneers team

A pioneers team is created with representation of all departments. Students are also involved in developing products and doing research. Communication strategy & awareness programme are designed, and upskilling teachers, students & staff starts. With the pioneers team new and ongoing AI initiatives are brought together and streamlined into an AI experiment portfolio. We develop an appropriate governance mechanism to make sure execution is well embedded into the departments. APPLICATION: The readiness scan zooms in on the extent to which the subject is already alive, where expertise is located, who belongs to the forerunners, so that they can be brought into contact with each other insofar as this is not yet the case.

Step: 4 - Develop AI Roadmap

The roadmap shows all major initiatives during the upcoming cycles and their dependencies and is accompanied by the required resources and budget. APPLICATION: The roadmap often starts small and starts with some elements from the AI strategy. The first 3 to 6 months experience is gained with the method. After that, it can be scaled up after evaluation.

Every cycle the Pioneers team will evaluate the roadmap (4), strategy (3a) and governance (3b), while creating a reflective loop with the top management for learning. APPLICATION: Because developments are moving at lightning speed, occasionally standing still and zooming out is crucial. Do we have enough focus and the right people? Therefore, after 3-4 months, spend a day together harvesting, sharpening and looking ahead.
